When you pass your driving test in an automatic, you will not be allowed to drive a manual vehicle without L plates.

The driving test in an automatic is exactly the same as in a manual car. You are allowed the same number of faults and your driving standards must be at the same level. However, having no clutch or gears to worry about, takes away the possibility of stalling, being in the wrong gear or harsh gear changes.

Vehicles fitted with automatic gearboxes are easier to drive and allow you to focus all your attention on the road and traffic conditions. There is no clutch pedal or gear changing to worry about, it is all taken care of by the gearbox.

An automatic licence is not a second class licence.  Most people want their windows, sunroof, steering and mirrors to be powered so why not the gearbox? Would you want to go back to a broom instead of a vacuum cleaner, washing clothes by hand instead of a washing machine or using a hand drill instead of a power drill? Put the automatic gearbox into context, it just makes life easier.

We do not make any extra charge for courses taken in an automatic and it may be possible to switch from manual to automatic during a course if required.
